Former England rugby star Lewis Moody, aged 47, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to raise awareness about Motor Neurone Disease (MND) after being diagnosed with the condition in September. Moody, a retired Leicester Tigers and Bath player, acknowledged the challenges but embraced a positive outlook, inspired by the examples set by fellow MND advocates Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow.
In an interview with Mail Online, Moody emphasized his focus on living in the present and making the most of each day, despite occasional moments of sadness when reflecting on missed opportunities with his children. He shared plans for house modifications to improve wheelchair access and the precaution of recording his voice in case it is affected by the disease.
Moody emphasized his readiness to use his platform to advocate for MND awareness, recognizing the privilege of being able to make a difference in the face of adversity. He recounted the emotional process of informing his family about the diagnosis, particularly highlighting the reactions of his sons, Dylan and Ethan, as a challenging aspect of his journey.
