Owners of certain models of integrated heat pump tumble dryers produced by Haier are being advised to check if their machine needs an immediate safety fix due to a potential fire hazard. The affected brands include Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Haier, Hoover, Lamona, Iberna, and Montpellier.
If you own one of these devices, it is recommended to check the model number and serial number online to determine if your appliance is impacted. If so, contact the manufacturer to schedule a repair. Avoid using the appliance until the repair is completed.
For those able to access the plug, it is suggested to turn off and unplug the appliance. Earlier this year, Haier initiated a corrective action plan for 103,000 affected machines.
However, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) instructed Haier to halt its initial repair program due to concerns about the safety of the modification. Following an updated adjustment, Haier has resumed its program and begun contacting consumers once again.
Initially, Haier focused on arranging a second repair for machines that had previously been modified and is now scheduling repairs for the remaining 85,000 owners whose appliances still present a fire risk. Owners are strongly advised to stop using affected appliances immediately.
An internal short circuit may occur during normal usage, potentially causing the tumble dryer to ignite.
Check if your tumble dryer is affected and reach out to the manufacturer if it is. This information is based on the routine updates provided by Haier to OPSS.
