A teenager described as “loving” has tragically passed away following participation in a risky social media trend. Tiegan Jarman, residing in Thurmaston, Leicestershire, was discovered unresponsive in her bedroom on March 6. Despite efforts by emergency services to revive her, the 13-year-old was declared deceased at the scene.
According to Tiegan’s family, her demise was linked to a dangerous online phenomenon known as chroming, which involves inhaling toxic fumes from household items for a momentary high. Her stepfather, Rob Hopkin, expressed uncertainty about her previous involvement in chroming but mentioned that she had used at least one deodorant can during the incident.
Her father, Paul Jarman, remembered Tiegan fondly as a warm, funny, and adventurous individual whose untimely passing has profoundly impacted their lives. The family is now advocating for increased awareness of the hazards associated with social media trends. They believe that online platforms should exercise better control over content, especially concerning trends that pose immediate threats.
Tiegan, who had three siblings and four step siblings, now has her sister, Alisha, leading an online petition to raise awareness about the risks of certain social media trends, aiming for educational initiatives in schools and stricter warning labels on products prone to misuse. The family hopes that through these efforts, the dangers of solvent abuse and online challenges can be effectively addressed to prevent further tragedies.
