“Cristiano Ronaldo Signals Potential Retirement from Football”

Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that the current Saudi Pro League season may mark the end of his illustrious career. The 41-year-old football icon’s contract with Al-Nassr in Riyadh, inked in December 2022, is set to expire next June, and he expressed doubt about signing another deal.

In an interview with Vogue magazine, Ronaldo mentioned, “This is likely my final year in football, and I aim to leave behind a remarkable legacy.” The Portuguese forward, renowned for scoring 976 career goals, recently tied the knot with his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

Reflecting on his future plans, Ronaldo stated, “I have my post-football life all planned out. I have numerous pursuits to keep me engaged. Football’s departure could create a significant void, so I intend to fill my time diversely.” He added, “I look forward to having more fun, traveling extensively, engaging in padel games, a sport I truly enjoy, and continuing to relish the fruits of our labor. It’s been 25 years of immense dedication and sacrifices.”

The ongoing 2026-27 SPL season marks Ronaldo’s 25th year as a professional player. Throughout his career, he has clinched five Ballon d’Or trophies and five UEFA Champions League titles. Ronaldo’s exceptional performance, with 28 league goals last season, propelled Al-Nassr to victory in the Saudi Arabian league in May, marking his first title win since joining the club and the team’s first league triumph since 2019.

Following his recent wedding, Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s initial match of the season but was in attendance to witness their 3-0 victory over Al-Fateh. Coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged Ronaldo’s continual support, stating, “Cristiano is always with us, and his presence is felt.” Ronaldo is anticipated to feature in the upcoming King’s Cup game against Al-Diriyah on Tuesday.

Ronaldo’s statements align with those of his long-standing rival Lionel Messi, who hinted at a potential retirement after the recent passing of his father. Messi, aged 39, confessed, “I’m uncertain about my future. Football used to be my sole focus, but now I’m unsure about how long I’ll continue playing.”
