The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list on Saturday due to concussion symptoms. In response, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo, with Lazaro Estrada, a right-hander, being designated for assignment to free up space on the 40-man roster.
Additionally, left-hander Ricky Tiedemann was recalled from Buffalo on the same day, while right-hander Chase Lee was sent down to Triple-A. Guerrero exited the previous day’s 3-1 win against the Yankees after a collision with New York’s rookie shortstop, George Lombard Jr., during a chaotic play at third base in the sixth inning.
During the incident, Lombard attempted to jump over Guerrero, causing his knee and thigh to make contact with Guerrero’s head, leading to Guerrero’s helmet being knocked off. Despite the collision, Guerrero managed to score the tying run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the following inning.
Following the game, manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero had experienced a headache, which persisted into the next day. Guerrero’s current season stats include a .263 batting average along with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Tiedemann, who was also called up, had a record of 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in seven games, including two starts, across various minor league levels this year.
