Thunder Bay’s Krista Scharf, a well-known curler, is set to lead Team Despins for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Following the disbandment of her previous team earlier this year, Scharf, who has an impressive record at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, has eagerly embraced this new opportunity.
Having represented both Ontario and Northern Ontario at the Scotties on numerous occasions, Scharf expressed her excitement about returning to competitive play with Team Despins. The team approached her recently due to a vacancy caused by a teammate’s injury, and Scharf gladly accepted the chance to bring her experience to the group.
Acknowledging the significant adjustment of joining a new team, Scharf emphasized her commitment to supporting her new teammates and striving for success. With aspirations to compete for the Northern Ontario championship and secure a spot at the 2027 Scotties, Team Despins is gearing up for a rigorous season of practice and preparation.
Scharf, along with her new teammates Abby Deschene, Robyn Despins, Rebecca Carr, and Nicole Westlund-Stewart, is eager to hit the ice and work towards their shared goal. The team’s focus on teamwork, dedication, and improvement will be pivotal as they aim for success in the upcoming curling season.
