American rapper Rick Ross, whose real name is William Roberts II, was taken into custody in Miami Beach on accusations of battery related to a purported domestic violence episode, as confirmed by local authorities to The Associated Press. Ross faces one felony charge of battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor battery charge. He was subsequently released on bail, as documented in online court records.
According to reports, an unnamed woman informed local detectives that while residing with Ross, he allegedly accused her of infidelity on August 28 and physically assaulted her. The woman claimed that Ross not only struck her multiple times but also choked her with her shirt collar and forcefully pushed her against a wall. The incident was reported on Tuesday, leading to Ross voluntarily surrendering himself at the local police station on Thursday morning.
In response to the allegations, Ross took to Instagram to assert his innocence, denouncing the accusations as “fabricated.” His legal representatives stated to CBC News that Ross has pleaded not guilty to both charges and maintains his innocence. They urged the public to refrain from forming premature judgments and allow the legal process to unfold.
Ross, a prominent rapper based in Miami since the early 2000s, gained recognition with his debut single “Hustlin'” in 2006 and later signed with Jay Z’s label, Def Jam Records. His first album, “Port of Miami,” debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2008, Ross established his own label, Maybach Music Group, where he signed notable artists like Meek Mill and French Montana. An arraignment for Ross’s case is scheduled for October 22.
