Dennis Haskins, famously known for his role as principal Richard Belding on the popular TV series “Saved by the Bell,” has passed away. The sad news was confirmed by his agent, Jay Schachter, stating that Haskins was 75 years old.
Described as a tragic loss, Schachter expressed deep admiration for Haskins, emphasizing his warm relationship with fans and the lasting friendship they shared over two decades. Haskins’ portrayal of Mr. Belding, the affable and fair-minded principal at Bayside High, endeared him to viewers, with his iconic catchphrase, “Hey, hey, hey, what is going on here?”
Originating from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Haskins initially played the role of Mr. Belding on Disney Channel’s “Good Morning, Miss Bliss,” which later evolved into the widely acclaimed “Saved by the Bell” series that aired from 1989 to 1993. He continued to reprise his character in subsequent iterations of the show, including “Saved by the Bell: The New Class” and a memorable reunion sketch on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in 2015 alongside former castmates.
Following Haskins’ passing, his co-stars, including Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez, and Tiffani Thiessen, have shared heartfelt tributes on social media, reminiscing about his impactful presence and the camaraderie they shared.
