Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, the Canadian beach volleyball duo, clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held on home turf.
The Olympic silver medalists of 2024 staged a remarkable comeback against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, securing victory with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16 to stand on the podium.
Wilkerson dominated with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points to the win.
The game had to be momentarily halted due to adverse weather conditions before it resumed.
Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson faced a defeat in the semifinals against Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta, losing 21-19, 20-22, and 15-7 earlier in the day.
Although their dream of a three-peat was shattered, the Canadian duo was set to battle Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann for the bronze medal later that day.
Their victories in Montreal in 2023 and 2025, along with the Olympic silver medal in Paris Games, highlighted Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson’s successful track record.
Canadian men claim bronze
Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett from Canada fought back to seize another upset win in the men’s bronze-medal match on Sunday.
The duo from Ontario defeated Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen.
After losing the first set 16-21, Schachter and Pickett rebounded strongly to take the next two sets 28-26 and 15-12, earning their first joint podium finish on home turf.
The Canadian pair caused a major upset by defeating the world No. 1s Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson to reach the men’s semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event on Saturday.
However, the 39th-ranked Canadians fell short in the semifinals on Sunday morning, losing 2-1 (21-12, 16-21, 16-14) to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein.
