“Jody Jamieson Wins Gold Cup and Saucer Race Legacy”

Jody Jamieson, the driver, and his horse Fifth and Five clinched victory in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held on Saturday night in Charlottetown. This accomplishment holds special significance as Jamieson’s father also triumphed in the same race back in 2006. Expressing his elation, Jamieson described the win as a dream come true, emphasizing the prestige of the race.

The Gold Cup and Saucer race, boasting a prize purse of $100,000, attracts participants including trainers, owners, and drivers from various parts of North America to the renowned Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually. Jamieson reflected on his longstanding connection with the race, mentioning his admiration for his father’s victory with the 11-to-1 longshot Banner Yankee in 2006, which was his favorite until his recent success with Fifth and Five.

In a post-race interview, Jamieson shared his strategic approach during the race, highlighting the crucial moment when he realized his chance of victory. With a winning time of 1:49.4, Fifth and Five, according to Jamieson, possessed all the essential qualities for success on the track, including the ideal size, gait, and temperament.

Following the race, amid celebrations in the winners’ circle, Jamieson expressed overwhelming joy, labeling the triumph as a realization of his ultimate dream. He conveyed his disbelief at the euphoria of the moment and indicated that the feeling might be indelible, showing no inclination to return to reality anytime soon.
