A woman accused of leaving the scene of a deadly accident near Fredericton had her court appearance rescheduled by three weeks. Vanessa Ricketson, 27, faces charges related to the death of a 19-year-old man from Norton. Originally set to choose a trial method in Fredericton provincial court on Tuesday, she was not in attendance. It is alleged that she departed after fatally hitting the man, who had stopped on the Trans-Canada Highway near Oromocto to change a tire.
During the court session, defense attorney Shane Hill, representing Emily Cochrane, requested a postponement for evidence disclosure. Judge Lyne Raymond agreed and set the new court date for September 1. The victim remains unidentified, but authorities confirmed his safety measures, such as pulling over sufficiently, wearing a reflective vest, and activating the vehicle’s hazard lights.
The RCMP declined to confirm if Ricketson was the person of interest mentioned two days after the incident on March 19. Ricketson faced charges nearly four months after the event, and the police stated she is not currently in their custody.
