As fuel prices soar in the UK due to concerns about the impact of the conflict in Iran, a new interactive map has been released showcasing average petrol prices in different areas and highlighting the most economical places to refuel nearby.
The price of crude oil has surpassed $100 per barrel amidst ongoing US and Israeli military actions in Iran, causing petrol prices at UK pumps to climb to 137p per liter, marking a nearly 6p increase since the conflict commenced nine days ago.
Experts caution that if crude oil prices remain high, British drivers could face additional cost hikes. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit warns that sustained oil trading at $100 per barrel could push petrol prices to around 150p per liter, with prices potentially reaching 170p per liter if oil hits $120 per barrel.
Fuel prices vary significantly across the UK, with Northern Ireland seeing notably lower prices compared to the national average. For instance, the average cost of standard unleaded petrol in Belfast stands at 125.8p per liter, almost 10p cheaper than the UK average.
The most expensive locations for refueling include North Warwickshire, Maidstone, Breckland, and Brentwood, all with average petrol prices exceeding 141p per liter. However, each of these areas also features cheaper filling stations closer to the national average.
An interactive map is available for users to check the average petrol price in their area and identify the most cost-effective refueling spots. The cheapest place in the UK to fill up with petrol is an ASDA garage in County Durham, where drivers could save up to £24 compared to the priciest station.
In County Durham, the ASDA garage on South Church Road charges motorists 127.7p per liter, equating to £70 to fill a standard 55-liter tank. Conversely, the most expensive petrol station in the UK is an ASDA station in South Lanarkshire, where standard petrol costs 171.9p per liter, requiring £95 to fill an average family car.
Diesel prices have surged faster than petrol prices since the onset of the conflict in Iran, with an approximate 9p per liter increase. For diesel vehicle owners, the most economical refueling point is an ASDA garage in Kingswood, Hull, offering standard diesel at 134.9p per liter, according to retailer data.
The quoted prices are based on retailer information as of Monday, March 9, 2026, at 4:45 am.
