An international soccer player was apprehended in Central London during the early hours of Saturday for suspected assault and affray following an incident in the West End.
The 29-year-old player was taken into custody at the scene on suspicion of two assault charges and one affray charge. Authorities responded to a call reporting an assault at 00:47 GMT on Saturday.
A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police stated that a 29-year-old individual was arrested at the location on suspicion of two assaults and one case of affray. The individual has been released on bail as investigations continue.
The purported victim was later transported to a hospital with injuries described by the police as non-life-threatening or life-changing.
The player, identified as an international athlete, has been granted bail and remains unnamed for legal reasons. An active police inquiry into the incident is ongoing.
