Liz Truss has introduced her own YouTube series as a bold move against what she calls the “deep state”. In a video shared on social media, the former Tory Prime Minister, who had a short 49-day tenure, reiterated her belief that the “deep state” conspired to ruin her reputation.
She defended herself, denying responsibility for the 2022 financial crisis, attributing it to the fallout from her controversial budget that included substantial unfunded tax cuts. Despite losing her seat in the previous election, Truss is determined to confront her critics and shed light on what she perceives as the truth prevailing in the Western world. She has encouraged viewers to tune in to The Liz Truss Show every Friday to engage in what she terms “the counter revolution”.
However, her initiative was met with derision from fellow politicians and journalists. Labour MP Callum Anderson sarcastically suggested that the show’s first guests might be characters from “the Muppets and Fraggle Rock”. Another Labour MP, Uma Kumaran, criticized Truss’s announcement as “unhinged”, highlighting that her performance was so poor that even a lettuce survived longer than her political career.
Further backlash came from YouGov, which re-shared polling data indicating that only a small percentage of the public is interested in Truss’s opinions on government policies. A majority expressed disinterest or negativity towards her potential return to frontline politics, according to separate surveys conducted.
In her promotional video on X (formerly Twitter), Truss recounted her removal from the Prime Minister’s office in 2022, emphasizing her efforts to steer the country towards a low-tax, high-growth economy post-Brexit. She refuted blame for the ensuing market crisis and vowed to confront the forces she believes orchestrated her downfall.
