A top music specialist has compiled a selection of the world’s most ‘joyful’ Christmas car playlist, ensuring ‘certain’ grins regardless of your holiday destination. Dr. Claire Renfrew, a music expert, devoted considerable time to sorting through Christmas tunes to create the ultimate playlist, with each song conforming to a specific scientific framework.
Dr. Renfrew identified that the melody that perfectly aligns with the formula is not Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You,’ despite 45% of 2,000 drivers in a survey admitting it brings them the most happiness. Instead, Brenda Lee’s ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ was deemed the ideal song.
Other tracks meeting the criteria include ‘Feliz Navidad’ by José Feliciano, ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ by Bobby Helms, and ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’ by Michael Bublé, alongside classics like ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ by Wizzard.
Curated by Dr. Renfrew, the ‘World’s Happiest Christmas Car Playlist by Fiat’ features 25 songs tailored to uplift drivers during the festive period and ease the stress of traveling. The playlist, accessible on Spotify, is ranked based on how well each song fits the scientific mold.
So, what’s the secret recipe for a dopamine-boosting Christmas tune? According to Dr. Renfrew’s analysis, the happiest Christmas songs share common traits. These include being in a major key, showcasing lively vocals and instruments, maintaining a tempo of 100 to 140 beats per minute, and containing a simple, catchy chorus.
A survey conducted via OnePoll.com found that 54% of those journeying home for Christmas regard it as one of the season’s highlights. Despite being a cherished moment, 47% perceive it as the most stressful time to be on the roads.
Dr. Renfrew mentioned, “Christmas songs can have a surprisingly potent positive effect on us psychologically,” adding, “Not only do Christmas songs uplift our spirits, they alleviate stress, evoke nostalgia, enhance social connections, boost energy levels, spark joyful anticipation, and enhance emotional well-being, making them potent psychological tools for happiness and holiday cheer.”
Victoria Hatfield from FIAT UK, which initiated the study following the launch of its Grande Panda in the UK, stated, “Happiness is a core part of our brand philosophy, and we believe that driving home for Christmas should be a cause for celebration as the festive season commences.”
She further commented, “By curating the right playlist and making suitable plans, you can enjoy a magical and stress-free journey home in anticipation of the big day.”
