“South Park” Rebrands as “South America” in Trump-Inspired Move

In a move reminiscent of Donald Trump’s tactics, the iconic animated series “South Park” has decided to shake things up for its 29th season by rebranding as “South America.” This name change is a tongue-in-cheek jab at the U.S. president’s penchant for renaming geographical features to include “America.”

Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone humorously announced the shift to “SOUTH AMERICA,” citing the inspiration drawn from tech giants Apple and Google. The duo expressed gratitude towards their parent company Paramount in a slightly pointed manner, referencing Paramount Skydance as a subsidiary of David Ellison. Ellison, despite denying any allegiance to Trump, is currently embroiled in legal issues over alleged dealings with the former president.

Trump’s trend of renaming landmarks began during his second term, with efforts such as proposing the “Gulf of America” and renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America.” While some entities have resisted adopting these new names, tech giants like Apple and Google have faced criticism for accommodating the changes on their platforms.

The decision to rebrand “South Park” as “South America” coincided with Trump’s recent social media musings about renaming New Mexico as “New America.” Whether this alteration is a passing joke or a theme to be explored in the new season remains to be seen, aligning with the show’s tradition of satirizing Trump and his tenure.

Since its inception in 1997, “South Park” has been a thorn in the side of Trump and his supporters, regularly pushing boundaries with its irreverent humor. The series’ Emmy-winning streak has only emboldened its mockery of Trump, as evidenced by recent social media posts lampooning the president.

Fans can catch the premiere of “South America,” formerly known as “South Park,” on Comedy Central on September 16, with Canadian viewers being able to watch it the following day on Paramount+.
