“Stratolaunch Roc: World’s Largest Aircraft Takes Flight”

Spectators in the United States were amazed by the sight of an enormous aircraft, larger than a football field, flying gracefully above them. Videos shared on Reddit captured the impressive plane cruising through the skies of California, resembling something out of a science fiction novel.

Aviation enthusiasts believe that the massive aircraft, likely built by Stratolaunch, a company based in the Mojave Desert, is known as the ‘Stratolaunch Roc’. This aircraft, touted as the world’s largest, features a unique design that resembles two jets fused together, with a remarkable wingspan of 385 feet, surpassing the length of an American football field.

Named after a legendary giant bird of prey from Middle Eastern mythology, the Stratolaunch Roc is equipped with six Boeing 747 engines and weighs a staggering 1.3 million pounds during takeoff. This remarkable aircraft made headlines previously during a test flight that lasted six hours above the desert.

Designed to serve as a mobile launch platform for satellites and other space-bound payloads, the Stratolaunch Roc also carries the Talon-A2, a hypersonic aircraft capable of reaching speeds of 3,800mph and circumnavigating the globe in under seven hours.

Recent reports indicate that the Stratolaunch Roc successfully completed test flights in December 2024 and March 2025, as confirmed by the US Department of Defense, now known as the Department of War. Zachary Krevor, the CEO of Stratolaunch, expressed admiration for the team’s accomplishments, highlighting the successful flights of the Talon-A and Roc.

In another aviation milestone, the X-59, an experimental aircraft, took its inaugural flight from Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works facility in California. The flight lasted approximately an hour before landing at Edwards Air Force Base, covering a distance of about 85 miles.
