The UK has been advised by the Met Office to prepare for strong winds. A yellow warning is in effect from noon until 7 pm today, potentially leading to large waves in coastal areas and power outages. The warning specifically impacts six regions in Northern Ireland: County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County Londonderry, and County Tyrone.
The forecast highlights that the strong and gusty winds could cause disruptions to transportation and infrastructure. Drivers are advised to anticipate delays on roads, railways, and ferries. The Met Office stated that a period of strong southeasterly winds will move from southwest to northeast across Northern Ireland, clearing the north coast by evening. Wind gusts are expected to reach 45-55 mph, with possible gusts up to 60 mph along exposed coasts of counties Down and Antrim, as well as in high ground areas.
In addition to the strong winds, persistent rain is forecasted for all regions, leading to challenging travel conditions. Coastal residents are urged to stay safe during stormy weather, as large waves can pose risks even from the shore. Extra caution is advised near cliffs, and pet owners are reminded to keep their dogs on a leash. In case of emergencies, individuals are instructed to call 999 and request assistance from the Coastguard.
Currently, there are no other Met Office warnings in effect across the UK.
