Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is set to travel to Canada next week, as reported by sources familiar with the matter. The Globe and Mail was the first to break the news, which has since been verified by two separate sources. The visit to Canada is expected to encompass two destinations.
Zelenskyy’s previous visit to Canada took place in December, during which he held discussions with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax before proceeding to the United States for talks with President Donald Trump, focusing on resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Prime Minister’s Office has opted not to provide any comments regarding the upcoming visit.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has mentioned that various nations, including the U.S. and China, are prepared to aid in facilitating a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. However, Putin emphasized that the primary responsibility for resolving the conflict lies with the involved parties – Russia and Ukraine. He expressed appreciation for all endeavors aimed at achieving a settlement and expressed optimism about the possibility of success.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, speaking in Kyiv, expressed confidence in a renewed momentum in peace initiatives, emphasizing the resumption of active political and diplomatic engagements across global capitals. While not elaborating further, he advised reporters to stay updated on the latest developments.
After enduring the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II for over four years, both sides rarely express optimism about peace prospects. Their last mediated talks occurred in February under U.S. auspices.
