Police have implemented a dispersal order in response to a significant disturbance involving over 100 young individuals engaging in fights and launching fireworks.
The incident occurred when a gathering of men turned into a large brawl around 5 pm last Thursday, leading to escalating chaos. Authorities are conducting investigations to identify the participants and have taken measures to prevent a recurrence of the situation.
To address the issue, law enforcement has initiated a patrol strategy for the next three days to avert further disturbances. Inspector Kat Murray of the Oldham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team confirmed the proactive steps following the events on Thursday.
A dispersal order empowers the police to instruct individuals to vacate a specified area and refrain from returning for a designated period, typically up to 48 hours. This measure is aimed at addressing anti-social behavior, criminal activities, harassment, or intimidation, thereby providing relief to the community by dispersing groups or halting disruptive behaviors before they escalate.
“The events from last night in Oldham were distressing for our residents, and we understand the disruptive impact of anti-social behavior on people’s lives,” stated Inspector Murray. “The patrol plan is a preemptive action aimed at preventing any further incidents of anti-social behavior in the area and offering reassurance to the community.”
Officers will be actively patrolling the area to enforce the order and engage with the public. Those experiencing anti-social behavior issues are encouraged to contact their local team for guidance and support on addressing their concerns.
