“Major Accident Causes M6 Traffic Chaos Near Birmingham”

A major accident on the longest motorway in the country led to significant traffic delays for drivers earlier today. The incident involved a car overturning after a collision with a lorry on the northbound side of the M6 near Birmingham at junction 4a in Castle Bromwich. This resulted in the closure of three lanes between junctions 4A for the M42 and junction 5 for Castle Bromwich, Castle Vale, and Sutton Coldfield. The disruption lasted for nearly an hour, as reported by Birmingham Live. Emergency services, including an ambulance, responded to the scene, treating the car’s driver for injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening before transporting the individual to Heartlands Hospital.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed a two-vehicle crash at junction 4a on the M6, stating that one of the drivers sustained injuries believed to be minor. A spokesperson from the service mentioned that they received reports of the collision involving a car and a lorry at the specified location. Following their arrival, medical crews attended to the male driver of the car, providing treatment for injuries that were not considered severe, and subsequently transferring him to Heartlands Hospital.

After the morning’s accident, all three lanes were reopened once traffic officers had cleared the area. National Highways issued an update indicating the recovery of the overturned vehicle near Birmingham and the reopening of all lanes, although residual delays of up to 30 minutes were still expected. Emergency services had concluded their operations at the scene, with recovery efforts ongoing, resulting in the closure of three out of four lanes. Delays of approximately 55 minutes were reported, with congestion stretching back to J3A.

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, the collision occurred on the northbound section of the M6 near Birmingham between junctions 4A for the M42 and A42 (Catshill Interchange) and junction 5 (Castle Bromwich Interchange), leading to extensive traffic congestion around junction 4A. National Highways provided an update indicating the closure of lanes 3 and 4 on the M6 northbound near Birmingham due to an overturned vehicle resting against the central reservation. Recovery operations were underway, with emergency services and Traffic Officers present at the scene. Delays of up to 55 minutes were forecasted in the area.
