“Woman Faces Murder Charges in Husband’s Fatal Stabbing”

A woman described as ‘loving’ allegedly fatally stabbed her 84-year-old husband in their residence after nearly thirty years of marriage, a court proceeding revealed.

Daryl Berman, aged 71, is facing charges for the murder of her spouse, David Berman, 84, at their home in March. She pleaded not guilty to the accusation. Prosecutors claim that the defendant intentionally killed her husband, stabbing him in the chest for reasons undisclosed.

According to reports, the accused informed the authorities that her husband’s death at their home in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, was accidental. She stated that he fell in their kitchen onto a paring knife she had been using during lunch. Witnesses mentioned that Mrs. Berman appeared detached in the days following her husband’s demise, behaving as if nothing had occurred.

During the prosecution’s opening argument, Michael Brady KC stated that initially, the death of Mr. Berman was treated as an accident by the police. Mrs. Berman called emergency services at 1:55 pm on March 13 to report her husband’s injuries. He was declared deceased at their residence by 2:39 pm the same day.

Mr. Brady mentioned that it was only at the hospital that a pathologist was consulted after another medical professional raised concerns about the injury. Dr. Philip Lumb’s assessment indicated that the stab wound displayed characteristics consistent with a homicide. The prosecutor argued that while not impossible, an accidental fall was highly improbable as the cause of the fatal wound.

Furthermore, Mr. Berman was found to have a finger wound, which the prosecution suggested could have occurred during a self-defense attempt. Jurors were informed that the couple had a 27-year-long marriage characterized as loving and supportive, with no history of domestic violence or encounters with law enforcement. Mrs. Berman was described as an extremely supportive and affectionate spouse.

On the day of his passing, Mr. Berman had spent time with his daughter and great-granddaughter at a play center. Witnesses recounted that Mrs. Berman contacted emergency services that afternoon and performed CPR as instructed by the operator.

When questioned about the incident, she reportedly stated, “I don’t know. I was in the other room. He’s carried a tray in. And all I can see is the tray. I think there was a knife. I don’t know whether the little knife that was there has gone into him and stabbed him. I really don’t know what’s happened.” The trial is ongoing.
