Luke Humphries has issued a caution to darts enthusiasts that Luke Littler might opt to step away from the game if they persist in booing him. Littler, who broke down in tears after defeating Humphries to secure victory in the Premier League, disclosed his challenges with the audience.
The 19-year-old shared that he had contemplated quitting during the challenging early stages of the competition, confiding in his girlfriend Faith Millar about his struggles. Expressing his feelings, Littler stated, “After Brighton and the incident in Manchester, I was sitting at home telling Faith, ‘I don’t want to do it anymore, just the crowd every week.’ I told her, ‘I’m down bad.'”
Throughout the 17-week tournament, Littler faced boos from spectators following an altercation with Gian van Veen in Manchester. This negative reception significantly impacted him, prompting Humphries, his defeated opponent, to appeal to fans to desist.
Humphries emphasized the significance of Littler to the darts community, highlighting that Littler’s well-being surpasses his association with the sport. He emphasized Littler’s humanity, describing him as a regular individual and a commendable young person striving to convey his true self.
Reflecting on the Premier League season as a tumultuous journey, Littler acknowledged the unwavering support of his family, friends, and girlfriend. Following his emotional victory over Humphries with a double 20 finish, Littler, accompanied by his family, girlfriend Faith, and friend Angry Ginge, clinched the title at The O2 in London. With an average score of 111.67 and 12 maximums thrown, he secured the trophy and a prize of £350,000, avenging his previous final defeat by Humphries in 2025.
