Netflix Announces “The One About Matthew Perry” Docuseries

In the past, fans were captivated by Matthew Perry’s portrayal of Chandler Bing on the popular show “Friends.” However, following his passing in 2023, many found it challenging to reconcile the news of his ketamine addiction with the beloved character they knew so well.

In an effort to provide a more comprehensive look at the Canadian actor, Netflix has announced a three-part docuseries titled “The One About Matthew Perry.” The series will delve into Perry’s journey from a rising comedic talent to his iconic role on the hit NBC show, featuring never-before-heard accounts from his inner circle, including lifelong friends and his sister Mia Perry Bowick, who is a grief specialist.

Bowick, who has openly shared her grieving process after Perry’s death, expressed that it took time for her to be ready to reveal memories of loving Matthew in all his complexities, beyond just his on-screen persona as Chandler and his struggles with addiction.

Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased due to a ketamine overdose in his backyard hot tub at the age of 54. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to offenses related to providing him with the drug, with one of them, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence for selling ketamine to Perry.

Netflix has assured that the docuseries will not only feature fond recollections from Perry’s loved ones but will also present candid insights into his personal challenges, paying tribute to his legacy of honesty and advocacy. The series is scheduled to premiere on October 27.
