“John Tory Named Chair of TIFF Board of Directors”

John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has assumed the position of Chair of the Board of Directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm, Tory stated his eagerness to collaborate with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.

Tory’s tenure officially commences on October 1, as confirmed in a recent news release. This year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who had been serving as chair since 2021. In his farewell statement, Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing lasting pride in his contributions to the festival’s evolution.

Additionally, TIFF announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Concurrently, Asha Daniere, who has served on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF conveyed its sincere gratitude to Daniere for her significant service and dedication to the organization.
