The Toronto-based Olympic silver medalists extended their winning streak to 3-0, leading in Pool A.
Wilkerson expressed their strategic clarity and effective communication during the match, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and teamwork. The duo’s focus remains on perseverance and competitive spirit for the duration of the weekend.
On the other hand, Lea Monkhouse from Mississauga, Ont., and Marie-Alex Belanger from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Que., experienced setbacks, losing two matches and dropping to a 0-3 record.
In the men’s category, Sam Schachter from Richmond Hill, Ont., and Jonny Pickett from Wiarton, Ont., faced a defeat against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Lima with a score of 21-13, 23-21. Despite the loss, the Canadian duo progressed to the playoffs with a 1-2 standing.
Meanwhile, Steve Abrams from Georgetown, Ont., and Cameron Chadwick from Barrie, Ont., struggled with a 0-3 record after a close match against Americans Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh, ending with a 21-23, 21-18, 15-12 result.
The tournament action will continue until Sunday at Parc Jean-Drapeau, offering more thrilling beach volleyball matches.
