Toronto Blue Jays’ powerhouse Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been cleared from the seven-day injured list and is set to play in the upcoming game against the New York Yankees. Guerrero sustained an injury during a recent game against the Yankees in Toronto after colliding with rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. in an unconventional play at third base during the sixth inning.
The collision occurred when Guerrero slid into third base, resulting in Lombard’s knee and thigh making contact with Guerrero’s head, causing his helmet to come off. Despite the incident, Guerrero managed to score the tying run before leaving the game. After undergoing final concussion tests, Guerrero returned to the team on Friday and participated in batting practice after a successful minor league rehabilitation game for single-A Dunedin.
In the following game against the Yankees, Guerrero was slotted second in the batting order as the Blue Jays aimed to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat in the series opener. To make room for Guerrero’s return, the team optioned infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo.
Guerrero currently boasts a .263 batting average with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Prior to his injury, he had been on a hot streak, hitting .310 in his last seven games.
