In southern Spain, a body believed to be that of a missing British woman has been discovered after an extensive search effort. The search was initiated for 73-year-old Geraldine Ann after she disappeared from her residence in Chirivel near Granada on September 17. Allegedly, she left her home late at night in pajamas and flip-flops to feed some cats following an argument with her husband, who reported her missing the next day. A body was found concealed under vegetation near a motorway, with police awaiting definitive DNA test results but sources indicating the deceased woman is likely Geraldine.
Chirivel Town Hall released a statement expressing deep regret over the discovery of a body by the A-92 motorway, believed to be that of their neighbor Geraldine, pending official confirmation. A widespread search was conducted for the missing British woman, who resided in Contador, a hamlet in the Chirivel district, involving drones, officials, and volunteers.
The mayor of Chirivel, Jose Torregrosa Mota, disclosed that Geraldine suffered from senile dementia and had left home following a minor argument with her husband. He extended gratitude to the Civil Guard, local police from Chirivel and Cullar, where Geraldine’s body was found, and deployment of sniffer dogs and a specialized mountain rescue Civil Guard unit named GREIM.
Volunteers, including British expats, joined in the search for the missing individual, with support from the Spanish missing persons association SOS Desaparecidos. Despite the advanced control room no longer being operational, search efforts continued with a plea for vigilance from the local municipality, especially among farmers and sports enthusiasts.
This development follows the discovery of a British man, Marc Tulloch Hewson, who had been missing for nearly a month, found on Spain’s Costa Blanca. Hewson, 63, was last seen on September 20 in Torrevieja, south of Alicante, after being discharged from Torrevieja Hospital in the early hours of September 19. A body retrieved from the water at the fishing port of Aguilas in Murcia on October 15 was believed to be Hewson.
