BT Broadband customers in the UK are set to receive a surprising enhancement as BT Mobile prepares to re-enter the market. The company had previously paused new customer sign-ups in 2023, favoring its EE network brand. However, there has been a notable shift in strategy, with BT announcing that existing broadband customers will soon have access to BT-branded SIM deals once again.
The exact details of the relaunch are yet to be disclosed, but this move signifies BT’s commitment to revitalizing its established brand, which had taken a backseat to EE in recent years. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, is focused on restoring BT’s presence in UK households to prevent the brand from fading into obscurity.
Kirkby emphasized the company’s substantial investments in networks and highlighted the upcoming focus on enhancing brands, products, and services during an event at Wembley. This reintroduction will position BT in direct competition with major providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as popular low-cost networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.
Although pricing details are pending, BT plans to offer bundled services, combining broadband, landline, and mobile SIM services in a single package with a monthly bill. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore views this move as an effort to stay relevant in a fiercely competitive telecoms market, emphasizing the importance of execution to prove network capability at scale for long-term success.
Additionally, BT announced its partnership as the official telecoms provider for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, to be hosted across Britain and Ireland. This strategic move aligns with the company’s broader vision of reconnecting with users, households, and businesses. Pescatore sees the UEFA Euro 2028 deal as a significant opportunity to showcase BT’s scale, relevance, and service delivery, leveraging the unifying power of sports to foster emotional connections with audiences.
