Four individuals involved in a London, Ontario investigation concerning the production of explosives and firearms are now confronting 19 additional charges, as per court records filed on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. All four have ties to Western University, either as students or recent graduates, with the three male suspects having backgrounds in the university’s engineering department.
The updated set of charges presented to the Ontario Court of Justice raises the total to 31 separate charges. Some of these charges are collective accusations against all four individuals, while others are specific to each accused person.
Among the latest charges are allegations of possessing five distinct explosive materials, possessing stolen items, and accessing computer data linked to the production of firearms.
The investigation, which commenced on January 24, stemmed from a report of trespassing at Western University after two men entered an engineering building on the campus. One person was apprehended outside the building, leading authorities to a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood where the other three suspects were arrested.
Law enforcement conducted an extensive search of the dwelling at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, as well as two additional properties in Orléans, a suburb of Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Initially, when apprehended, the four individuals faced multiple firearms charges, including the manufacturing and possession of handguns. The new charges against Tong, Wang, and Ji involve possession of magazines and suppression devices, as well as the possession of another prohibited firearm. Tong and Wang are additionally accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Tong, who is facing the majority of the charges, is also implicated in events in other cities, including storing rifles in Orléans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle in an unauthorized location in Quebec. Despite holding a firearms license, Tong faces charges related to possessing a firearm at an unapproved site.
Wang and Tong are also confronted with charges linked to events that occurred before their arrest. Wang is accused of manufacturing a weapon between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, while the duo is charged with breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025.
Furthermore, court documents reveal that Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji are facing a new series of charges for possessing explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. Initially, all four were charged with possession of precursor substances and completed high explosives.
In total, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20, Han faces 11, and Ji faces 13. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with two individuals out on bail and two remaining in custody. Tong did not request bail and is currently detained, while Han was denied bail and returned to custody in February. Wang was granted bail in March under strict conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and continuous supervision from two sureties who each posted $200,000. Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
