Hannibal Mejbri, a 22-year-old midfielder for Burnley and the Tunisian national team, has accepted an FA misconduct charge, resulting in a £15,000 fine and a four-game suspension. The charge stemmed from allegations that he spat at Leeds United fans during a Premier League match on October 18. A spokesperson for the FA stated that an independent Regulatory Commission had found Mejbri in breach of the Laws of the Game by spitting at Leeds United supporters. Mejbri admitted to the charge, leading to the suspension and fine. The Regulatory Commission will release detailed reasons for its decisions soon.
As a consequence of the sanctions, Mejbri, who joined Burnley in 2024, will be ineligible for selection until the last game of 2025, when Burnley plays against Newcastle on December 30.
