Lewis Hamilton Urges Africa to Reclaim Resources & Bring F1 Racing Home

Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton advocates for Africa to regain control of its resources by breaking free from the influence of various European nations such as Britain, France, Spain, and others. Hamilton also expresses his desire to witness the return of Formula 1 racing to Africa before his retirement.

During a pre-Australian Grand Prix event marking the commencement of the 2026 season in Melbourne, Hamilton, responding to a query from a South African journalist about the possibility of a race in Africa, emphasized his aspiration for this to materialize. The seven-time world champion highlighted his concern about the continent’s ongoing exploitation.

Hamilton passionately stated, “I believe Africa is a remarkably beautiful region, and it troubles me that it is controlled by other nations that exploit its resources without addressing this issue. I sincerely hope that the leaders of African nations can unite to reclaim their land from the European powers. It is crucial for the continent’s future.”

Expressing his eagerness for Formula 1 to return to Africa, Hamilton pointed out that the last Grand Prix held on the continent was in 1993 at Kyalami during the South African Grand Prix. He emphasized the importance of having a race in Africa, highlighting his positive experiences in different African countries like Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa, which he considers ideal locations for potential Grand Prix events.

Hamilton is actively advocating for Formula 1 to include Africa on its racing calendar before he retires, emphasizing his African heritage with roots in countries like Togo and Benin. He expressed pride in his African lineage and vowed to continue pressing Formula 1 decision-makers until an African Grand Prix becomes a reality.
