The upcoming weekend will see additional weather warnings issued by the Met Office. Initially, three warnings for heavy rain were announced for Saturday and Sunday, encompassing regions of North Wales, the north-west of England, and southern Scotland. These warnings have now been extended to include Monday.
A fresh warning for heavy rain has been put in place for north-west Scotland, affecting Highland as well as Argyll and Bute. This warning is effective from midday on Saturday until midday on Sunday, with the potential for up to 100mm of rainfall, equivalent to a month’s rain, during this period.
Another new warning has been issued for all of Northern Ireland, starting at midnight on Sunday and lasting until 6 am on Monday. Up to 50mm of rain is forecasted for higher elevated areas there.
In southern Scotland, the warning covering various areas like Dumfries and Galloway, Scottish Borders, and more, has been extended from 6 pm the following day until 9 am on Monday.
The warning for northern England, including regions like Derbyshire, Durham, and Lancashire, will also be in effect from 6 pm the following day until the same time on Monday.
Wales is also under a rain warning for Ceredigion, Conwy, and other areas from 6 pm on Sunday until 3 pm on Monday.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Rebekah Hicks highlighted the potential for travel disruption and localized flooding due to prolonged rainfall on already saturated ground. Unsettled weather conditions are expected to persist into the following week.
According to BBC Weather, Saturday will bring windy and wet conditions in the north and west, with heavy rain likely in west Scotland. Sunday through Tuesday will remain unsettled, with rain expected for many regions, although clearing up in the north by the evening on Sunday. Monday will see lingering rain in the western UK, while the north and south-east may stay dry. Patchy rain is anticipated in the south and east on Tuesday, with brighter spells in the north and west.
