“Ocado to Cut 1,000 Jobs, Save £150M”

Ocado has announced intentions to cut approximately 1,000 jobs in a move to save £150 million. The online grocery retailer stated that the job reductions will impact about 5% of its workforce, with the majority affecting its UK operations, including the Ocado headquarters in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The company plans to streamline its research and development by merging Ocado Solutions and Ocado Intelligent Automation into a single unit.

The job cuts are focused on non-retail divisions, with no impact on the Ocado retail sector. The announcement was made alongside Ocado’s latest financial results showing a significant rise in profits. The company reported a 12.1% increase in group revenue to £1.36 billion for the year ending November 30, 2025, with adjusted EBITDA soaring 59% to £178 million.

Ocado’s CEO, Tim Steiner, emphasized the company’s commitment to strategic R&D investment for value creation. He highlighted the reorganization efforts to simplify the operating model and enhance commercial strategies as they expand into multiple international markets post exclusivity agreements. Unfortunately, these changes will lead to a reduction in roles, and the company expressed gratitude to impacted employees for their contributions, pledging support during the transition.

Founded in 2000 by Tim Steiner, Jason Gissing, and Jonathan Faiman, former Goldman Sachs employees, Ocado offers a wide array of products, including M&S food products and its own brand range.
