Selma Blair’s team has addressed the recent arrest of the actress following an alleged incident during a flight on October 11. In a statement to CBC News, Blair’s representative highlighted that the public narrative surrounding the incident has heavily relied on a police statement and an old headline.
The actor was taken into custody for allegedly causing harm to two flight attendants during a trip from Los Angeles to New York. Additionally, she faced charges of assaulting a police officer and a nurse following her arrival at the hospital.
Blair appeared in court on October 12 and pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault before being released on bail. Her representative emphasized that Blair experienced a medical emergency on the flight and had no intention of causing harm to anyone.
According to charging documents, Blair allegedly kicked a police officer and a nurse while being attended to at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Her lawyer cited her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis, mentioning the impact of missed medication doses on her neurological symptoms.
The statement also clarified that Blair’s diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2018 has been public knowledge. Despite facing challenges, including living with pain and pseudobulbar affect, she continues to advocate for disability rights. Her spokesperson highlighted Blair’s advocacy work and projects in various industries, emphasizing her commitment to raising awareness and promoting inclusivity.
While Blair has faced previous incidents involving airplanes, her representative urged the public to consider the full context of the situation before forming judgments. The actress, known for her roles in popular films, has maintained a lower profile in recent years but remains dedicated to her advocacy efforts and upcoming projects in the entertainment industry.
