The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is currently looking into a collision between a police car and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario. The incident occurred on Kingston Road around 7:30 p.m. on Friday. According to SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon, a Durham Regional Police Service officer was en route to an emergency call when the crash occurred at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road.
Following the collision, the occupants of the civilian vehicle were taken to the hospital for treatment. Hudon mentioned that a child in the vehicle sustained a serious injury. The Durham police confirmed that their officers were responding to a call when the accident happened, leading to the involvement of the SIU in the investigation.
Durham police informed the public via social media that Kingston Road was shut down at Brock Road in both directions, with southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue also affected for the collision probe. By early Saturday morning, the roads had reopened, as per an update from Durham police.
