Widespread snow is set to cover 10 towns across the UK as weather maps show a snowy outlook. A cold period is descending on the country as we near Christmas, with temperatures expected to drop to around 0C. WXCharts, utilizing MetDesk data, indicates that 10 towns are likely to witness snowfall on Friday.
Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe, Macclesfield, Sheffield, Carlisle, Dumfries, Hawick, Ayr, Stirling, and Perth are highlighted on the maps to experience some snow around 6pm on Friday. Meanwhile, other regions are expected to face rainy conditions, except for certain areas along Northern Ireland’s border with the Republic, the Highlands, and the South West.
By 3am on Saturday, most of the snow will have moved over England, lingering in Wales and the Scottish Highlands. Snowfall is also anticipated just south of Inverness and in the central Highlands at that time.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Friday across much of Sussex and Kent, in effect from 12am until 9am the next day, leading to potential travel delays.
Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert stated that the UK will encounter more unsettled weather over the weekend and into the following week. After a frosty start with chances of icy patches and fog in southeastern England, windy and rainy conditions are expected to sweep across the UK on Friday, potentially causing disruptions to evening commute. Heavy rainfall is forecasted over high ground in various regions, posing a risk of flooding and travel disturbances.
Looking ahead, the Met Office cautioned about a disruptive weather pattern in the coming week, with heavy rain and strong winds predicted for Monday and Tuesday. Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates advised people to stay updated on the forecast and watch out for severe weather warnings that may be issued due to the approaching low-pressure system.
