The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have reported that a 47-year-old man was killed in a collision involving two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland on Tuesday. The incident occurred near Gullbridge, also known as Gull Pond Bridge, situated between Badger and South Brook. Responding to the crash after 2:15 a.m. NT on Tuesday, the police found both vehicles engulfed in flames upon arrival.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a 47-year-old man traveling east, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the westbound tractor-trailer sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment, where they remain under care. The police response led to the closure of a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook for several hours.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently ongoing as confirmed by the authorities.
