“United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Edinburgh”

A United Airlines flight departing from London for San Francisco had to make an emergency landing in Edinburgh today. The pilot declared an onboard emergency, leading to the diversion of the aircraft. The plane, which was originally en route to cross the North Atlantic Ocean, changed its course and headed towards Edinburgh after a general emergency signal (7700 squawk) was issued.

Reports indicate that emergency services were present at Edinburgh Airport when the flight landed. The aircraft, as per FlightRadar24 data, was scheduled to arrive in San Francisco at 5 pm on Friday. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident but were not required upon arrival.

United Airlines stated that the diversion to Edinburgh was due to a “burning smell” onboard the plane. The airline arranged hotel accommodations for the 162 passengers and rebooked them on alternative flights to their destinations. The Mirror has reached out to United Airlines for further comments on the incident.
