A Cape Breton teenager successfully raised $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada by operating a hotdog stand and receiving generous donations. 13-year-old Jake Campbell, along with his family, managed to surpass their previous year’s fundraising efforts of $3,000 by selling hotdogs, with supplies provided by No Frills and Wonder Bread. The hotdog stand was set up in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., where in addition to the proceeds from hotdog sales, people also contributed cash donations.
Hollie Quick, a senior development officer for Make-A-Wish Canada at the Nova Scotia chapter, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support received in Sydney. Last year, Campbell was recognized with an award in memory of a wish child who had passed away, which inspired him to aim even higher this year.
The funds raised by Campbell and his family will enable Make-A-Wish Canada to fulfill the wishes of the 81 children on their list in Nova Scotia. These wishes range from creating accessible spaces at home for outdoor activities to family trips. Campbell emphasized his support for the foundation, highlighting its impact on both the children and their families, potentially fulfilling their final wishes.
Looking ahead, Campbell expressed his enthusiasm for future fundraising initiatives, indicating that the exact breakdown of funds from hotdog sales versus donations is not yet determined. The successful campaign has paved the way for the foundation to continue making dreams come true for children in need.
