After a break due to the Commonwealth Games, the Diamond League track and field circuit restarted with a special men’s pole vault “city event” in Lausanne, Switzerland. Armand Duplantis, a Swedish athlete with impressive credentials, clinched victory with a meet-record vault of 6.21 meters. Despite attempting a crowd-pleasing 6.32m, which would have been a new world record by one centimeter, he fell short.
The event in Lausanne marks the beginning of the final phase of the global track and field season, culminating in the Diamond League Final and the newly introduced World Athletics Ultimate Championship.
The upcoming schedule includes exciting competitions with star-studded lineups. Only three regular-season meets are left before the Diamond League champions are determined at the Final in Brussels on Sept. 4 and 5. The anticipation is high for the main event in Lausanne on Friday, featuring a men’s 800m clash among the Paris Olympics medallists and thrilling 200m races.
In Poland’s Silesian Stadium on Saturday, prominent athletes will compete in various events, including the women’s shot put. Sunday promises intense showdowns such as the men’s 100m race and the women’s 100m featuring top sprinters like Sha’Carri Richardson and Shericka Jackson.
With spots for the Diamond League Final up for grabs, athletes are battling for qualification based on their season-long points accumulation. The Final in Brussels will see athletes competing for the prestigious Diamond Trophy and substantial cash prizes.
Following the Diamond League Final, the first-ever World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest will conclude the 2026 track and field season, offering a significant prize pool and showcasing the world’s best athletes in a competitive setting.
