Households in the UK relying on Freeview for TV content are advised to check their equipment and consider performing a quick retune. This recommendation follows recent channel adjustments, including name changes and shifts in the TV guide lineup. While not a major overhaul, a swift retune will ensure that TVs are fully updated.
Freeview has confirmed these updates, stating, “On May 20, 2026, some broadcasters will be modifying their channels.”
The announcement continued, “To keep your TV and channels up to date, you will need to retune.”
So, what’s changing, what’s new, and what’s relocating?
Firstly, two channels are undergoing name changes. Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 now goes by the name Shop Unlimited, while Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 will be replaced by Great! TV +1.
Additionally, there are alterations to channel numbers. Great! Movies will shift from channel 61 to channel 62, with Great! TV +1 taking over the vacated channel 61 slot.
Freeview also stated, “Channels on Freeview are continuously evolving as individual providers choose to move, add, or remove channels.”
The statement continued, “Freeview ensures a diverse content offering for audiences.”
If the updates are not reflected on your TV, manual retuning of your device may be necessary.
To retune your TV:
• Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote
• Select “set-up”, “installation”, “update”, or a similar option
• If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000”
• Choose “first-time installation”, “factory reset”, “full retune”, or “default settings”
• Press “OK” to confirm deletion of existing channels if prompted
• The retuning process should commence automatically
• Save any channels found during the scan if required
