A police officer on probation is in intensive care after being shot in the head during a terrifying incident at Bondi Beach, as confirmed by authorities. The officer, Jack Hibbert, sustained severe injuries during the shocking shooting at the iconic Sydney beach. New South Wales (NSW) Police praised his bravery while on duty.
According to a NSW Police spokesperson, Hibbert was shot twice while carrying out his duties at Bondi Beach. One bullet hit his head, and the other struck his shoulder while he was patrolling the Hanukkah celebration. He was quickly taken to the hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries, with his survival being described as miraculous by NSW Police.
Despite suffering a loss of vision in one eye, Hibbert, who had been with the NSW Police for four months, is facing a challenging recovery ahead. NSW Police highlighted his courage and selflessness during the incident, emphasizing his dedication to protecting the community.
The Hibbert family expressed gratitude for the support received from NSW Police and hospital staff. They requested privacy as they focus on Jack’s recovery. In a tragic turn of events, 15 innocent individuals lost their lives in the attack, carried out by a father-son duo armed with long guns during a Jewish festival at Archer Park. The elder suspect was shot and killed by police, while the younger is expected to survive and face legal consequences. NSW Health reported that 25 people remain hospitalized, with six in critical condition following the attack.
