Two cousins convicted of sexual abuse and rape have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms after targeting vulnerable girls. Manzorr Hussain, aged 54, and his cousin Imtiaz Ali, aged 53, were found guilty of grooming and sexually assaulting five victims by providing them with alcohol and drugs. The Minshull Street Crown Court revealed that the victims, who had troubled backgrounds, were manipulated by the perpetrators for their own gratification.
Hussain received a 30-year sentence, while Ali was sentenced to 28 years following a trial that lasted four weeks. The offenses occurred mainly in Bury, with additional incidents in other locations across Greater Manchester and Wales. Another individual, Ghulam Hussain, 64, faced charges related to the case but has reportedly left the country, leaving the jury to deliberate on his involvement.
According to Prosecutor Anna Pope, the defendants collaborated in grooming and sexually abusing six teenage girls, exploiting their vulnerabilities and coercing them with substances and false companionship. The victims were made to feel indebted to the perpetrators, leading to non-consensual sexual activities.
Ghulam Hussain was described as the ringleader who abused and facilitated the abuse of teenage girls, passing victims to his younger brother Manzorr Hussain and cousin Imtiaz Ali, who were also involved in the market stall business. The court learned that Manzoor Hussain orchestrated assaults on victims and arranged for other men to exploit them, while Ali hosted parties where drugs and alcohol were provided, with the expectation of sexual services from the girls.
In one disturbing incident, Manzorr Hussain took a victim to a location where she was abused by multiple strangers sequentially. The victims eventually came forward, leading to an investigation that uncovered the extent of the abuse.
During the sentencing, the judge emphasized the lack of remorse or insight shown by the defendants, labeling their actions as a sustained campaign of rape. Manzorr Hussain was convicted of multiple counts of rape and indecent assault, resulting in a 30-year sentence. Imtiaz Ali was found guilty of rape, indecent assault, and attempted indecent assault, receiving a 28-year prison term.
Both offenders are required to serve at least two-thirds of their sentences and will be registered as sex offenders for life.
