“Canada’s Marco Arop Places Fourth in Diamond League Race”

Canada’s Marco Arop secured the fourth spot on Friday at the Diamond League track and field event held in Lausanne, Switzerland at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Arop started strong, leading the pack into the final lap but couldn’t maintain the pace, finishing the race in fourth place with a time of 1:43.18.

The race was won by Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi in 1:42.19, with Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati coming in second with a season-best time of 1:42.31, and American Brandon Miller finishing third in 1:42.55.

Arop and women’s shot putter Sarah Mitton were the sole Canadians to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich last year, where they both claimed third place finishes. Arop, currently second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings behind Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, is in a strong position to secure a spot in the Final based on his current ranking.

The 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final is scheduled to take place on September 4-5 in Brussels, Belgium.

In the men’s 200m event, reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana dominated, crossing the finish line in 19.87 seconds. South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile secured second place with a time of 19.98, followed by Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba in third with a time of 20.14.

On the women’s side, American Kayla White clinched victory in the 200m race with a time of 22.18 seconds. Great Britain’s Amy Hunt narrowly beat Nigeria’s Favour Ofili for second place, both clocking in at 22.32 seconds. Unfortunately, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, a two-time women’s world champion, suffered an injury during the race and had to be removed from the track in a wheelchair.
