A fundraiser set up to support a courageous individual who disarmed one of the assailants during the Bondi Beach terror incident has garnered close to $1 million in donations.

Video footage captured the moment when Ahmed Al Ahmed, aged 43, bravely intervened by confronting and subduing one of the attackers in Sydney, Australia. In a daring move, Ahmed seized control of the gunman’s weapon, causing the perpetrator to retreat.

Before taking action, Ahmed reportedly confided in his cousin, expressing his willingness to risk his life to save others. The 43-year-old Syrian immigrant, now a fruit shop owner in Australia, sustained injuries during the incident and was receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

Praised for his heroic actions, Ahmed was visited in the hospital by New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, who commended his bravery in disarming the terrorist, potentially saving numerous lives.

A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to aid Ahmed’s recovery journey, with donations reaching $964,905 AUS. Over 14,000 individuals have contributed to the fundraiser, including a significant donation from billionaire Bill Ackman.

Messages of gratitude and admiration poured in from donors, acknowledging Ahmed’s selfless courage and unwavering determination to protect others. The fundraiser continues to draw support from individuals inspired by Ahmed’s bravery in the face of danger.

The attack resulted in the tragic loss of 15 lives, with many others sustaining injuries. The suspected terrorist, Naveed Akram, was apprehended at the scene, while his alleged accomplice and father, Sajid, was fatally shot by law enforcement.
