An 18-year-old teenage boy named Gabriel Vilchez and his 64-year-old stepfather, David Gardiner, have been brought before the court on charges of murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of Silvia Vilchez, the boy’s mother. Concerned friends of Silvia contacted the police when they couldn’t locate her. Upon investigation, it was revealed that both Gabriel and David had misled authorities about Silvia’s whereabouts, claiming she was in Costa Rica.
Authorities discovered charred human remains during a search of the family’s property, confirming them to be Silvia’s. At a preliminary hearing, details emerged about the disturbing scene found in the family’s home office, with bloodstains and signs of violence evident on various surfaces.
Gabriel confessed in a police interview that he had beaten Silvia with a bat in the office and then burned her body in a fire pit, alleging that his stepfather had witnessed the act. However, David denied any involvement, claiming he slept through the incident and had no knowledge of the events.
The motive behind the crime has not been disclosed publicly, but both Gabriel and David face charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. While David’s bond was set at $250,000, Gabriel is being held without bail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for January 30.
In a separate incident, a 13-year-old girl in Russia allegedly slit her mother’s throat after a dispute over the confiscation of her phone. The girl reportedly reenacted a violent scenario from online games, claiming an intruder had attacked them. However, she later admitted to stabbing her mother following arguments about internet usage and restrictions imposed by her mother. The girl cannot face trial due to being below the age of criminal responsibility in Russia.
