Ronnie O’Sullivan Demands Financial Compensation for Future Snooker Participation

Ronnie O’Sullivan, the seven-time world snooker champion, has issued a firm ultimatum to the global snooker authorities, stating that financial compensation will determine his participation in future events. O’Sullivan’s stance comes in response to the abrupt cancellation of the Saudi Arabia Masters, a prestigious tournament with a substantial prize purse of £2.3 million, terminated prematurely after just two years into a decade-long agreement. Emphasizing his financial expectations, O’Sullivan asserted that his presence at any tournament, whether in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, or elsewhere, is contingent on the organizers meeting his fee requirements.

Addressing the situation regarding his Snooker Academy in Riyadh, O’Sullivan expressed confidence in exploring alternative options. Although hopeful for potential collaborations with Saudi Arabia, he affirmed that his decisions will be influenced by the developments in that regard. Known for his selective approach to competitions over recent years, O’Sullivan highlighted the importance of sponsor support in determining his participation, underlining his commitment to enjoying the game and maintaining a balanced perspective on success and setbacks.

Following his recent defeat in the World Championship against John Higgins, denying him an eighth world title, O’Sullivan acknowledged his evolving mindset towards losses, crediting his newfound resilience and enjoyment of the sport. Despite the setback, he revealed plans to return to Ireland before potentially reentering the snooker scene at the upcoming World Seniors Championship at the Crucible. With a pragmatic outlook on his career, O’Sullivan emphasized the necessity of work and financial responsibilities, balancing his professional commitments with personal well-being.
