“JD.com Launches Joybuy in UK, Takes on Amazon”

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has introduced its new Joybuy platform in the UK to compete with major players like Amazon. The company, valued at £30 billion, offers a wide range of products including technology, appliances, beauty, home essentials, and groceries, featuring popular brands like Apple, LEGO, Samsung, and L’Oréal.

Joybuy guarantees next-day delivery for orders above £29 in London and other cities such as Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Oxford, and Cambridge, serving around 17 million residents. Additionally, a same-day “Double 11” delivery service promises orders made before 11 am to be delivered by 11 pm. The company has set up its own logistics network with distribution centers in Milton Keynes and Luton.

JD.com’s move follows its decision to step back from negotiations to acquire major UK retailers in recent years. Although discussions about purchasing Currys in 2024 and a potential takeover of Argos from Sainsbury’s last September did not materialize, the company remains committed to establishing a long-term presence in the UK market. Matthew Nobbs, Joybuy UK’s managing director, expressed confidence in the brand’s prospects and emphasized the importance of delivering an exceptional customer experience.

In addition to the UK launch, JD.com is expanding into Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The company sealed a £1.9 billion deal to acquire the Germany-based electronics retail group Ceconomy last year.
