Rock Legend Sass Jordan Dies at 65

Sass Jordan, a rock singer originally from Montreal, has passed away at the age of 65 after a music career that lasted almost four decades. The news was confirmed by family representative Eric Alper, who mentioned that Jordan was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her death. Details regarding the cause of her passing have not been disclosed.

Described as a unique and radiant presence, Jordan made her mark with her debut album, “Tell Somebody,” in 1988, which led her to win the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist in 1989. Her second album, “Racine,” released in 1992, featured popular tracks like “Make You a Believer.” Throughout her career, she received multiple Juno Award nominations for best female vocalist and served as a judge on all six seasons of “Canadian Idol.”

Born on December 23, 1960, in Birmingham, England, Jordan was raised in Montreal. Geoff Kulawick, the former president of Stony Plain Records, praised her as a fearless and stunning artist. Jordan collaborated with her husband Derek Sharp on her 2020 album, “Rebel Moon Blues,” and her 2022 album, “Bitches Blues,” during her time with Stony Plains.

Kulawick expressed his admiration for Jordan’s talent, emphasizing her ability to deliver powerful blues performances on her final two records. He highlighted her exceptional voice and emotional connection with audiences as key factors in her widespread popularity.

Derek Downham, a Canadian producer and songwriter, fondly recalled his friendship with Jordan, noting her lively personality and humor. He lamented the loss of her infectious laughter, reminiscing about their shared performance at an annual charity concert in Montreal. Downham praised Jordan for her role in paving the way for women in rock music, acknowledging her impact as a strong female presence in a predominantly male-dominated industry.

Reflecting on Jordan’s legacy, Downham emphasized her influence as an inspiration to aspiring musicians, urging people to remember her for her leadership and love in the music community.
